Longwood Gardens Green Wall
October 20th, 2010 | Posted by in LusheThe largest green wall in North America was unveiled October 9 at the world-renowned Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA.

The flagship of Longwood’s redesigned East Conservatory Plaza wing is the 4,072 sq ft green wall, displacing the title of North America’s largest green wall from the PNC Bank building in Pittsburgh by over 70 percent. The green wall was designed by was designed by GSky.
The Process
Plants
The 47,000 plants include Maidenhair Fern, Lipstick Vine, East Indian Fern, Asparagus Fern, Victoria Birdsnest Fern, Austral Gem Fern, Hart’s Tongue Fern, Tatting Fern, Spider Plant, Grape Ivy, Holly Fern, Rabbits Foot Fern, Krauss Gold Tip Spikemoss, Wart-Kangaroo Fern, Compacta Fern, Lemon Button Fern, Dallas Fern, Button Fern, Heart Leaf, Artillery Plant, Fern ‘Green Wave’, Tassle Fern, Blue Star Polypodium, Scouler’s Polypodium, Vareigated Green Brake Fern, Leatherleaf Fern
Maintenance
Maintenance is handled by the dedicated staff of horticulturists at Longwood Gardens. A scissor lift is used to maintain the plants on the upper areas of the wall. Remote operated drip line irrigation and an array of sensors maintain the plants to help ensure quality control and longevity of the plants
