Grassland Living Wall Panels
February 23rd, 2010 | Posted by in LusheFelicity from Gardenbeet in the UK shared a great innovation from Grassland in Germany. Grassland designs and manufactures a range of living wall panels that slowly change colour over time.

Cologne based designer Bernd Oette describes Grassland as the result of many years of experimentation to grow grass and to let it dry under controlled conditions. The special appeal of it is to make visible the concept of change and the transitory nature of things. My initial attempts to work with grass resulted in this project largely due to the responses that I got from people close to me who were fascinated by the grass objects”, says Oette, who personally produces all objects as limited editions.

The grass changes its colour from dark green to straw-colour and bends down slowly. After circa four years, the appearance hardly changes any further.
The grass seeds grow not on soil but on various materials – using water and light only – and are dried subsequently. The roots intertwine and form a joint area that, with the aid of the special technique of drying, will stick even on stainless steel.

Prices for the panels are :
Pure S: 69 x 50 cm, 290.- Euro
Pure M: 99 x 69 cm, 490.- Euro
Pure L: 149.5 x 99 cm, 960.- Euro

baaa – love the sheep
OMG, I love that sheep. It reminds me of an Art Car I saw where the man epoxied grass seeds to the entire outside, watered…then had a lush lawn growing on his hood.
Great post…thanks. Matti
It seems to me the dried grass is fire prone, limiting its application. I have dimming memories of a Dodge Aspen seen around Concord NH with grass panels. No doubt the grass roots kept the rusting body panels together.
Very interesting concept! I also like the lamps!
What I do not understand is if the grass is drying and dying or somehow is irrigated and if it is irrigated how do you get water on lamps? No so safe is it?
its an awsome product , how u u treat these grass ? daily basis or ????
